Allen Torbett's 53 Henry J
Here are the construction pictures as well as the finished product. Allen and his wife Marsha hail from Johnson City, Tennessee. Allen saw this in the local trading post and had been wanting one since he was a teenager. All the work was done by Allen except the paint which was done by a good friend. The motor is a Chevy  505 big block with a 1050 dominator and MSD electronics. The trans is a powerglide, rear is a Dana with 5:13 gear hooked to a 4 link suspension. The doors and tunnel are done in aluminum and have flames bead rolled into them by hand. Top was chopped and the drivers door is removable, the body is all original except hood. Allen bracket races at Bristol Dragway, he has been bracket racing since 1989, when he raced a 1958 Hillman. In 1995 he started racing this Henry J, and in his first season he was featured on ESPN. He has won several races and was featured last year in Super Chevy magazine as editor's choice. Car runs in the 5.70-80's in the 1/8th mile. Nice car Allen, very well done!!
